Peppermint Chocolate Layer Bars

Description

Delicious peppermint chocolate layer bars with dark and white chocolate, perfect for the holidays!


Ingredients

Scale
  • 225 g dark chocolate chips (minimum 60% cocoa)
  • 225 g white chocolate chips (with real cocoa butter)
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk (397g or 14 oz)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp peppermint extract
  • 4060 g crushed peppermint candies (or candy canes)

Instructions

  1. Line the 8×8 inch square pan with parchment paper, leaving generous overhang on the sides.
  2. Place 225g of dark chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl.
  3. Heat on medium power for 30 seconds, then stir vigorously.
  4. Return to microwave for an additional 20 seconds.
  5. Add about 200ml of sweetened condensed milk and mix until you get a smooth paste.
  6. Slowly incorporate the peppermint extract, stirring well.
  7. Pour this first layer into the pan and spread evenly with a silicone spatula.
  8. Set aside while preparing the white chocolate layer.
  9. Repeat the same process with 225g of white chocolate chips at medium power (30 seconds, stir, 20 seconds).
  10. Add the remaining sweetened condensed milk and mix until smooth.
  11. Incorporate the vanilla extract into the white chocolate mixture.
  12. Gently pour over the dark chocolate layer, being careful not to mix them too much.
  13. Generously sprinkle the crushed peppermint candies on top.
  14. Cover with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator for a minimum of 2 hours (ideally 3 hours).
  15. Remove from pan by gently lifting the parchment paper.
  16. Cut into desired size squares using a sharp knife (dip in hot water between each cut for clean edges).

Notes

  • These bars can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
  • Adjust the amount of crushed peppermint candies according to your preference.
